Ashburn, one of Chicago's 77 community areas, is located on the south side of the city. Greater Ashburn covers nearly five square miles. It is one of Chicago’s neighborhoods that has been a well kept secret to almost everyone but those who live there. When you look at a map of our 77 neighborhoods, you more than likely won’t even find it listed, as it often gets clumped together with surrounding neighborhoods like Auburn Gresham or Beverly. Ashburn was also home to Chicago's first airport, Ashburn Flying Field, which opened in 1916. It is a fine neighborhood. It is not the safest neighborhood but it is definitely a livable situation. The environment here is relatively lively and friendly.
