Mount Greenwood is one of the 77 community areas in Chicago with a population of 23,011. The 74th numbered area, it is about 14 miles (23 km) southwest of the Loop. It is in Cook County and surrounded by the neighborhoods of Beverly and Morgan Park to the east, the suburb of Evergreen Park to the north, the suburb of Oak Lawn to the west, and the suburbs of Merrionette Park and Alsip to the south. Mount Greenwood is known as the home of many Chicago firefighters, Chicago police officers, and union workers. Home to sprawling Saint Xavier University, Mount Greenwood is a southwestern residential district of Chicago. The public schools in Mount Greenwood are above average. Living in Mount Greenwood offers residents a dense suburban feel. In Mount Greenwood there are a lot of bars, coffee shops, and parks. Businesses, shops, and fast-food eateries are found along South Kedzie Avenue and West 111th Street, while an ice rink and an outdoor pool are focal points of Mount Greenwood Park. The area is also home to the St. Casimir Lithuanian Cemetery and the adjoining St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery.
