History of Tinley Park
Want to know where you might be living? What about history? Well, if you are a history buff, Tinley Park was actually settled back in the 1820s by immigrants from the eastern United States. It was predominately German settlers and first called the village of Bremen but in the late 19th century when the railroads expanded and the Chicago, Rock Island, and Pacific Railroad line crossed through the area, the name was changed to Tinley Park in honor of the village's first railroad station agent, Samuel Tinley Senior. The village was officially incorporated at the train depot in 1892.
Commerce continued throughout Tinley Park and it remained a rapid suburban expansion to the west and south of its original site between the 1900s and the 1990s. After its centennial in 1992, Tinley Park renovated its downtown historic district made up of the villages original 1892 boundaries. These renovations included the neighborhood parks near Oak Park Ave., Metra train station and the South Street Project offering more than 200 apartments and 40,000 ft.² of retail space. But, the biggest expansion was the Hollywood Casino Amphitheater named the World Music Theater which seats over 28,000 participants.

Tinley Park is included in for public elementary school districts, the Kirby School District 140, the Community Consolidated School District 146, Summit Hill Elementary School District 161, and the Elementary School District 159. There are several prekindergarten and preschool options throughout its eight elementary schools, two high schools and a few intermediate and private schools.
