Uptown is one of Chicago, Illinois’ 77 community areas with a population of 58,979. Uptown's boundaries are Foster Avenue on the north; Lake Michigan on the east; Montrose, and Irving Park on the south; Ravenswood, and Clark on the west. To the north is Edgewater, to the west is Lincoln Square, and to the south is Lake View. Uptown is in Cook County and is one of the best places to live in Illinois. Uptown is a laid-back residential area on Chicago’s Far North Side. North Broadway is known for its trendy cafes, jazz lounges and bars. Other nightlife and entertainment venues include the Uptown Theatre, the Riviera Theatre and the venerable Aragon Ballroom, which opened in 1926. In the 121-acre Graceland Cemetery are the burial sites of many famous Chicagoans. Montrose Beach has seasonal swimming and volleyball.
